Our Story

True Blue Women began after the November 2004 presidential election. Disheartened by the outcome, a group of us gathered in a living room to commiserate with one another. We decided to turn our despondence into action, and began to gather like-minded women to take action.

Our first action was to mobilize against writing discrimination into the Kansas constitution. Our message, Celebrate Commitment, Value Tolerance, was spread throughout the Kansas City metro area through yard signs, bumper stickers and media exposure. Since then our group has grown to several hundred women, who participate in different ways with True Blue Women. We hold quarterly general meetings, and have smaller interest groups focusing on the environment, education, health care and social justice. We also have a Missouri True Blue Women group that focuses on issues on the Missouri side of the state line, and Future True Blue, which provides activities for our members' children.

Our priorities include:

  • Advocating fair and equitable funding of education, health care and social services for all children.
  • Supporting reproductive choice and access to health care for all Americans.
  • Encouraging government and business policies that support family values by giving first priority to the economic and social needs of all families.
  • Working for high education standards in public schools, including instruction in the principles of mainstream science.
  • Promoting conservation and the responsible use of environmental resources.

The mission of the environment committee is to advance the long-term welfare of present and future generations by advocating sustainable environmental policies at all levels of government, as well as promoting the responsible use of energy and natural resources in daily life.

Our health committee's mission is to research health care issues and to advocate for the health and well being of our communities.

The education committee focuses on advocating for fully funded quality public education for all children.

We welcome your involvement with any of our activities!
